KUNM shares Station of the Year honor, takes home six top NMBA awards
KUNM's News Department took home six New Mexico Broadcasters Association awards for 2009, and is sharing the Station of the Year honor with KKOB-AM. After the announcement, KUNM General Manager Richard Towne said, "On behalf of the Regents and the University of New Mexico, I am pleased to see this important peer recognition. The awards recognize the important work of individual staff members and our deep collaboration between students, staff and community volunteers to serve our listening community."
KUNM News Director Jim Williams agreed, adding "this NMBA recognition is, in part, a reflection of the KUNM newsroom's passionate pursuit of journalism. We're not big, but we're committed, and we know how to do a lot with limited resources. As in the past, these awards and our thanks also go to our listeners, who continue to support community-powered public radio and independent reporting."
