New Mexico has connections to the Middle East in the form of a program near Santa Fe that brings together teen girls from Israel and the Palestinian territories.
The program is called Creativity for Peace. KUNM's Sarah Gustavus recently visited the camp and spoke with two young leaders. They are teens who already attended as campers and are acting as mentors this year.
The young leaders and new campers have been together for a few weeks. Along with some fun activities, the challenging work at the camp is dialogue sessions. Liat and Juana have been supporting the new campers as they open up about the impact of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on their lives, but they have to listen.
