Boogie Woogie!

Thurs. 1/27: This week, host Travis Parkin's eclectic themed sets include "We Got the Boogie" and "State of the Union." Plus, a set of songs written by Jerome Kern in honor of (what would have been) his 126th birthday.

In today's first theme-based set, We Got the Boogie, we'll be playing a handpicked selection of our favorite Boogie Woogie compositions from a range of musical genres. Featured artists include Eddie Heywood, Cuarteto Don Ramon, John Lee Hooker, T. Texas Tyler and others.

Later in the show, State of the Union delivers an assortment of tunes that go a long way in describing the true state of our nation with songs from The Clash, Earth Kitt, Barbara Dane and a number from Wanda Jackson's new album.

Songwriter Jerome Kern was born 126 years ago today and in our final theme-driven set, we'll be playing several of his most popular songs punctuated by a few biographical notes. Artists featured include Roxy Muisc, Skinnerbox, Madeleine Peyroux, Chet Baker, Willie Bobo and others.
