When the Germans invaded Holland in 1942, Eva and her family went into hiding. They were betrayed in 1944 and were captured by the Nazis. They were sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. Only Eva and her mother survived, liberated by the Russian army. Since 1985 Eva has become increasingly active in Holocaust education. In 1999 she joined United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan signing the Anne Frank Peace Declaration, along with a niece of Raul Wallenberg, who rescued thousands of Jews in Budapest.

Carol will also be talking to Margaret Randall about her 3 newly published books: As If the Empty Chair/Como Si La Silla Vacia, her tribute to the disappeared of Latin America; First Laugh, a collection of essays; and Something's Wrong With the Cornfields, a book of poems.

Continuing the series Revolutionary Soup, mother and daughter Belen Cruz and Liz Mangual will share stories of making Sancocho, a traditional soup of their native Puerto Rico; and how soup and the love of making it is part of a larger web of nurturing and creating relationship.
