Las Conchas contained, but still a threat

By Sarah Gustavus

Albuquerque, New Mexico –
The Las Conchas wildfire continues to burn, but is no longer an immediate threat to Los Alamos National Laboratory. The lab re-opened todayafter being closed for more than a week. Smoke can still be seen from Los Alamos. Arlene Perea is a fire information officer. She says hot afternoons mean an increase in fire activity and more smoke plumes. Perea says crews have created containment lines by burning potential fuels like grass and shrubs. The fire continues to spread, but has not passed those new lines. The Las Conchas wildfire is currently 30 percent contained and has burned more than 130 thousand acres.
