Planned Parenthoodhosted a Pink Out Day event at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque Tuesday. Much like lawmakers in Congress, attendees at Albuquerque’s Pink Out Day rally were also divided on whether to fund the healthcare provider.
Students dressed in pink gave out brochures on Planned Parenthood and reproductive health to people who walked by the UNM Student Union Building.
Volunteer Dom Meters said he fears the possibility that lawmakers will cut Planned Parenthood’s federal funding.
“Congress has gone off the deep end on this stuff, actually threatening to defund the government,” said Meters. “You know, we can’t let this stuff stand.”
Students for Life, a group that opposes abortions, rallied right next to the Pink Out Day booth, saying they're supporting the proposed cuts to Planned Parenthood funding.
UNM student groups Student Alliance for Reproductive Justice and Feminist Majority Leadership Alliancehosted the event. It was one of about three hundred of events in 90 cities across the nation.
