In the Mood, Voodoo Vocalists, and Who was Joe Hill?

Thurs. 2/24 at 1:30pm: Travis Parkin plays three themed sets featuring some of "the best music you've never heard."

In today's first theme-based set, Who Was Joe Hill?, we'll be providing biographical notes on the life of union activist and songwriter, Joe Hill, interspersed with a few of our favorite organizing songs?including a couple of Joe's compositions. Artists include Billy Bragg, Phil Ochs, Barbara Dan, Natalie Merchant and others. Later in the show, Voodoo Vocalists delivers an assortment of tunes about voodoo. Contributors include Charles Sheffield, Dr. John, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and The Neville Brothers. In our final theme-driven set, In the Mood, a handpicked collection of mood songs from Kermit Ruffins, Doc Watson, Nina Simone, Lord Tanamo, Big Walter Horton and others.
