Salsa Sabrosa …y Van Van Sigue Allí, Sigue Allí!: A Tribute to Juan Formell

Fri. 9 May, 7p: We will pay homage to the late Juan Formell, co-founder and Director of Cuba’s Los Van Van, and feature three hours of the very best of his work. Joining us will be a stellar cast of guests including musician, author, Qbadisc Records founder (and KUNM alumnus!) Ned Sublette, Mariela Suárez -who grew up in Havana listening to Los Van Van and is presently Musical Director of Havana NRG, Bay Area ethnomusicologist and host of KPFA-FM’s Radio Cuba Canta Emiliano Echeverría-, and Felicia Gustin, who lived in Cuba during the 1980s where she worked as a radio host and print journalist, spending her spare time as a vanvanera, sort of.
