Albuquerque, NM – One conversation at a time, StoryCorps Historias is collecting the Latino stories and voices of our time.

Nineteen-year-old Cibola High School graduate CJ Maestas is already an accomplished gymnast, and hopes to compete for the United States in the 2012 Olympics. But he couldn't have done it without the wisdom and support of his grandfathers, Frank Maestas and Frank Barela. In this conversation with his grandfathers, CJ shares a humbling experience in his athletic career... and how it feels to represent his family as an athlete.

Their conversation was recorded last May at a StoryCorps mobile booth in Albuquerque. The StoryCorps Historias Albuquerque project was made possible with support from the New Mexico Humanities Council and the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
