How do kids balance the physical world and the digital worlds, and what rules are in different houses?  Plus we're releasing chipmunks in the studios. Digging In - Archaeology in New Mexico

Sat. 10/11, 9am:  New Mexico has a human history dating back over 12,000 years.  Archaeologist Eric Blinman, from the Museum of New Mexico, will join us in the studio to teach us about archeology. We'll learn about the job of the archaeologist, plus find out what to do if you discover an ancient artifact in the woods, or even in your back yard.  With great music, our family events calendar, the KUNM Kids Birthday Club, and so much more, we'll dig into our past.

Sat. 9/27, 9am:  The Wilderness Act went into effect 50 years ago this month, and New Mexico was the first state to have officially designated wilderness.  We'll learn about what constitutes wilderness, and how kids can best enjoy our public lands.  Plus, Julia, Miel and Anna will be heading into the fractal corn maze at the start of the show, and they'll be checking in with us throughout the hour to see what progress they're making.  Great music, the KUNM Kids Birthday Club, and our calendar of family friendly events, join us!  

Celebrating Smokey the Bear's 70th Birthday

Sat. 8/9, 9am:  New Mexico's most beloved bear, we will celebrate Smokey the Bear's 70th birthday. Plus, the cast of Tarzan will perform live, and we'll learn about Engineering for Kids. Also, a memorial for musician Jerry Garcia, lots of KUNM Kids Birthday Club members get shout-outs, and all through we'll play great music ... all in one hour.

  Sat. 7/12, 9am:  Cooper's Hawks are prolific in the Middle Rio Grande Valley. Wildlife bird expert Kristen Madden will join us to discuss how kids can identify, protect and keep safe from nesting Cooper's Hawks. We'll also have a visit from Theatre-in-the-Making kids performing Shakespeare,  and The Doubleclicks will give us an exclusive, in-studio concert.

We'll be joined in the studio by folks from the Sky Velvet Vasser Foundation talking about their scholarships for Hummingbird Music Camp, and we'll have a visit from the education staff at the Albuquerque BioPark.  We'll also have this day in history, the KUNM Kids Birthday Club, and of course, great music.
