9.1.19 - Sherri Burr & The 2019 Black Culture Conference

09/01 7p: This week on Generation Justice, we look at new narratives in black history. Professor Sherri Burr, Emertius Professor of Law at the UNM Law School, introduces her new book "Complicated Lives: Free Blacks in Virginia 1619-1865." Professor Burr shares the little-known stories of Black and Native people who were free before the Civil War.

Then, we sit down with two UNM students, Devonte K. Watson and Dannelle Kirven, who give us the details on the 2019 Black Cultural Conference: Blackness Unchained, hosted by UNM African American Student Services. The two discuss resources available to students and shed light on the need to prioritize mental health for black students.
