Chamber Music For Kids And Molly of Denali

The Children's Hour 7/13 9a: We'll learn about chamber music from Leanne DeVane from the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. How is chamber music different from symphonies, and are kids really welcome at concerts? Listen for composer jokes and music imitating nature.

We'll also talk with Maya Salganek, a producer at the groundbreaking PBS Kids show, Molly of Denali along with her son Keet, one of the voice actors in the series. The animated TV program promotes early childhood literacy and multicultural diversity and is the first PBS's animated series starring a Native American character, where every indigenous character is voiced by an indigenous actor, and Native people are working in all aspects of the production and writing. Molly of Denali premiers on PBS stations around the nation on July 15, 2019.

With great music, our family events calendar, the birthday club, and carefully crafted just for KUNM listeners. Tune in live or listen later on the archive.

Katie Stone is the host and producer of The Children's Hour radio show and podcast. The show's goal is to bring informative, entertaining and engaging radio programming to listeners of all ages, showcasing local kids and kid-friendly organizations, while involving kids in all aspects of the production. Katie works with a crew of dedicated children who help produce the show, including writing and voicing scripts and reviews, helping choose jokes, show themes, music and guests, and assisting in all aspects of the live broadcast. Katie also reaches into the community, with regular live broadcasts from venues across New Mexico. She also partners with teachers to create radio shows for class projects, and joins with community organizations to bring kids voices to public radio. She hopes everyone listening comes away with new knowledge about the topic du jour. Katie started in radio when she was just 14 years old at WDGC-fm in Downers Grove, Illinios. Katie is the executive director of The Children's Hour, Inc, a New Mexico nonprofit dedicated to creating and distributing public radio for kids. The show is produced at the Sun Spot Solar Studio. Katie and her husband have raised four kids, and are delighted to be grandparents. They live in a handmade house on a solar powered organic farm in Albuquerque near the Rio Grande tending their orchard, gardens, chickens, children, a llama, cats, dogs, fish and thousands of bees.
