Who is eligible to vote?
All U.S. citizens who are residents of the state of New Mexico, who will be at least 18 years of age by Election Day, and are not convicted felons who are incarcerated or in the process of completing the terms and conditions of their sentencing are eligible to vote. You must be registered at least 28 days before the election in order to cast a ballot. Convicted felons who have completed their sentence, parole and probation, are eligible to vote, but must re-register.
I can’t remember if I am registered to vote, how can I find out?
If you are not sure if you have registered to vote, you can visit this site and try to log in. If you are successful, you can view your registration status. If you cannot log in, you have not registered to vote. You can register to vote here.
I am a convicted felon, can I still vote?
Yes, you are eligible to vote after completing your sentence, parole and probation, but you must re-register. To determine if you qualify to have your voting rights restored following a felony conviction you can contact the NM Department of Corrections, Division of Parole and Probation (505-827-8830). If your sentence was served in another state, contact the appropriate agency or office in that state.
When can I vote?
You can vote in person at your County Clerk’s office beginning Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018.
You can vote at county-wide early voting locationsstarting Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018.
All early voting in New Mexico ends Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, and it's also the last day you can turn in absentee ballots to County Clerk’s offices or an Election Day polling location.
All Election Day polling locations are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mountain Time. If you are standing in line when your polling location closes at 7:00 p.m. you will be allowed to vote.
Where can I vote?
For early voting locations and Election Day voting locations go to the New Mexico Secretary of State Voter Services website, enter your information and select My Polling Location from the left hand menu.
All Election Day polling locations are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mountain Time. If you are standing in line when your polling location closes at 7:00 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.
What do I need to bring with me to vote?
You do not need to bring anything to your polling location unless you are a first time voter and you did not provide a copy of your photo identification when you mailed in your registration application. If you didn't mail in the identification info, you'll need one of those forms of identification when you go to vote for the first time.
How long does it take to vote?
The time it takes to vote varies, but generally, the wait in lines at polling locations can be anywhere from 10 minutes to one hour long. Even though polls close at 7:00 p.m., anyone still standing in line at that time is guaranteed time to cast their ballot.

I won’t be in town on Election Day, can I still vote?
Yes, you can request an absentee ballot. To do so, you can fill out a form online, contact your County Clerk’s office or download the online request and mail it or hand it in to your County Clerk’s office. You do not need a specific reason to request an absentee ballot. Absentee ballot voting begins Oct. 9, 2018. The last day to request an absentee ballot is Nov. 2, 2018, by 5:00 p.m.
Who can see if I voted?
Voting records are public – anyone can see if you voted but they cannot see who you voted for.
When is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6, 2018 election?
The deadline to register to vote in New Mexico this year is Oct. 9, 2018. You can register online, in person or by mail.
What do I need to register to vote?
To register to vote online, you will need your social security number, your driver’s license number or state identification number and your date of birth. That info has to match what's in the state MVD database.
To register by mail or in person, the New Mexico Secretary of State's Office recommends that you use the New Mexico Voter Registration Application form which you can get at your County Clerk’s office, the Secretary of State's Office and other state agencies or motor vehicle division offices.
If it is the first time you have registered in the state of New Mexico, and you register by mail, you will need to provide a copy of a valid photo ID and a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or other government document that shows your name and address. If you don't submit this documentation with your registration, you'll be asked to provide one of the forms of identification when you vote.
Can I register online?
Yes, you can fill out an online registration form here. You will need a current or expired New Mexico State ID or driver's license, your social security number and your date of birth. This information must match what's in the MVD database.
Can I register in person?
Yes, you may download and print a copy of the National Mail Voter Registration Form and bring it to your County Clerk’s office or request a form there.
Can I register to vote at my student address?
Yes, but you should also include your school’s primary address when you register. Make sure to include your dorm room number and building.
