Investigating Uranium Contamination in Wells

Fri. 9/14 11a: The Department of Energy released well monitoring data in 2010 connected to the Wind River reservation in Wyoming. It reported uranium levels in a number of wells had spiked up to 100 times the legal limit.

The department released tap water tests this year with results showing uranium levels nearly twice the legal limit but, later said the results were anomalies. It's believed the problem stems from radioactive waste left behind by a mill.

How has the contamination impacted residents and the environment in the area?

Tristan Ahtone (Kiowa) investigated these issues and more as a reporter with Wyoming Public Radio. We invite you to join us as we take a look at his reporter's notebook on the uranium contamination issue.
