Tesuque, NM – At the Democratic state convention this weekend, former state Democratic party chairman Brian Colon won the top spot on the primary ballot for Lt. Governor. With over 34% of convention votes, Colon established a significant lead over Lawrence Rael, former director of the Mid-Region Council of Governments, who trailed with 22%.
Three other candidates for Lt. Governor, Senator Gerald Ortiz Y Pino, Senator Linda Lopez, and Representative Jose Campos, failed to receive over 20% of votes, the minimum required to secure an automatic place on the ballot. They could still get on the ballot by collection additional nominating signatures.
Lt. Governor Diane Denish, who is uncontested in the gubernatorial race, was nominated by acclamation to be the Democratic candidate for Governor.
