New Mexico's Public Education Department is looking to get more money for training of administrators at low-performing schools.
The Albuquerque Journal reports nearly 5 million dollars in funding requested from the state legislature would also go to train principals at eligible schools and pair them with leaders at schools that are more successful and have similar demographics.
Education Secretary designate Hanna Skandera says an education leadership program at the University of Virginia is already having an impact in districts that are using the program, including Las Cruces and Los Lunas.
Districts would have to apply to participate in the program.
