Albuquerque native Holly Holm is the newest women’s bantamweight champion in professional mixed martial arts fighting. She was showered with love Sunday afternoon when thousands of her fans welcomed her home for the first time after she won the title last month.

Governor Susana Martinez declared Sunday, December 6th Holly Holm Day and the emotional champion told the throng of fans who came out to her celebratory parade that they were awesome.

“I see all the signs and I see the happy faces, and you made this possible!” Holm exclaimed. “My fans started here, my whole career started right here. It wasn’t just my whole team that helped me believe in myself, it was the support of Albuquerque, and I just thank you so much.”

Holm won the Ultimate Fighting Championship title last month in a fight against reigning champion RondaRousey.

Holm said she’s blessed to have so much love and support in her corner, and that she’s not done yet.

The president of the UFC has said Holm’s next fight will be a rematch with RondaRousey.
