Ron Hale

Host - Folk Routes

Ron Hale has lived in New Mexico for 45 years. Ron has been doing radio since the 1960s—at WRSN in Swarthmore, PA; WGDR in Plainfield, VT; and KSFR in Santa Fe, NM. He has been on the air at KUNM for almost 30 years as one of the regular hosts of Folk Routes. Ron has been involved with folk, bluegrass, and traditional country music since high school and college, playing guitar and singing in a number of acoustic bands—currently with the Shaggy Peak String Band in Santa Fe (formerly Atomic Grass). Ron has a strong interest in the history and evolution of traditional American country, folk, and vernacular music. Ron is retired from a career as a consultant to non-profit organizations in health, human services, education, and the arts. He has served on numerous nonprofit boards in New Mexico and is currently a board member of the Santa Fe Friends of Traditional Music, producers of the annual Santa Fe Traditional Music Festival/Santa Fe Tradfest. Ron believes that public radio is a powerful means of enriching our lives, ensuring informed citizens, and building strong and vibrant communities.
