Discovering the Music of Bach

Discovering the Music of Bach
SANTA FE, NM – Join conductor and educator Oliver Prezant and harpsichordist Kathleen McIntosh for an in-depth look at a Prelude and Fugue from Bach’s celebrated Well Tempered Clavier.
During the program, Oliver will lead an interactive exploration of the music, as we look at how Bach works his material to create a brilliant, character-filled Prelude. Then we’ll examine the short melody that begins the Fugue and follow its twists and turns as it appears and reappears throughout the piece. Kathy will demonstrate a variety of approaches to creating an expressive, artistic performance on the harpsichord and she’ll provide insights about the virtues and limitations of the instrument.
In addition, audience members will be invited to share their feelings and impressions as they develop a relationship with the music and the performer. At the end of the program, we’ll hear a full performance of the music we’ve explored as well as one or two extra musical treats.
The program takes place on Saturday, June 10, from 2-3:30 p.m. at Strata Gallery, 418 Cerrillos Rd. in the Design Center. Tickets and information at: https://holdmyticket.com/event/414656
