New Water for New Mexico Public Forum # 2
The public forum and educational session “NEW WATER for NEW MEXICO - Part Two” has been scheduled for Thursday, October 26. The New Mexico Desalination Association said the event they are hosting will run from 8 a.m. to noon and be held at the University of New Mexico’s Continuing Education Conference Center located at 1634 University Blvd, Northeast in Albuquerque. This is the second year that the New Mexico Desalination Association has hosted this popular event for the media, farmers, urban and rural residents, policy makers and elected officials.
Space is limited this year for the annual NEW WATER for NEW MEXICO and interested parties are encouraged to get their tickets soon. Tickets to attend, which covers the cost of the conference center and snacks are $25 per person and MUST be purchased online no later than October 24, 2023. The portal to purchase tickets is: www.nmdesal.com/new-water-for-new-mexico.
At the “New Water for New Mexico” information forum, New Mexicans will get the latest update on the Texas v. New Mexico litigation and a potential resolution about water rights in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. They will also learn about potential projects and funding opportunities and hear a technical discussion on overall brackish water and desalination opportunities. There will also be a survey on water issues taken with the audience. Light snacks will be served.
“The New Water for New Mexico forum is not just another conference being coordinated so that academics and researchers can talk with each other,” said Charlie Leder, president of the New Mexico Desalination Association and a senior associate at the Hazen and Sawyer engineering firm. “We have a serious problem with water scarcity in New Mexico. This is part of the association’s effort to reach out to the public – the agriculture community as well as just everyday city dwellers. We think it will be well worth the time spent for New Mexico residents and business owners to attend.”.
The New Mexico Desalination Association (NM Desal) is an IRS 501(c)(6) that serves as a host organization between industry, academic, government, and communities for the exploration of using treated brackish water for industrial and agricultural purposes, leaving more freshwater for people.
