KNME-TV to Host Teacher Town Hall

PBS NewsHour senior correspondent Ray Suarez is slated to visit Albuquerque for a teacher town hall on New Mexico's high dropout rates just as the state's largest teachers' union vows to fight a new teacher evaluation proposal.  Suarez is scheduled Wednesday to host the town hall at the University of New Mexico for an event sponsored by New Mexico PBS.

The Albuquerque event comes a week after Govenor Susana Martinez announced that her administration would develop a new teacher evaluation system this summer without lawmakers' approval.  But Ellen Bernstein, president of the Albuquerque Teachers Federation, said she will fight the new evaluation system.

The town hall will air April 27 on a special edition of "New Mexico in Focus" on New Mexico PBS, KNME-TV Channel 5.
