The National Weather Service is warning that up to 2 inches of rain could fall in as several storms, some producing torrential rainfall, move across northwestern New Mexico today.
That kind of heavy rainfall heightens the risk for flash floods, especially in areas where the soil is saturated from recent storms or where the landscape has been scarred by wildfires.
Some of the storms could bring winds gusting to 55 mph and several may hang out over night in the middle Rio Grande valley until Thursday morning.
At the beginning of this month, a series of storms resulted in flash floods in Albuquerque and other areas of the states.
