Democrats in New Mexico’s congressional delegation say the Trump Administration isn’t doing enough to help Puerto Rico. U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham said Sandia and Los Alamos National labs are more than capable of aiding the territory as it continues to rebuild after Hurricane Maria.
Lujan Grisham said the labs can modernize electric grids and assist in crisis management.
“Puerto Ricans are taxpayers,” she said, “that means these labs also work for them, they can do the most modern evaluative work.“
Lujan Grisham along with U.S. Senators Tom Udall, Martin Heinrich and U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lujan sent a letter to the Department of Energy and the Department of Homeland Security detailing the expertise New Mexico labs have to offer. Lujan Grisham says that if the administration doesn’t respond, they can ask congress.
