Written Into History: Two Award Winning Directors Discuss Their Documentary Films

Sat. 3/23, 12p: On Women's Focus, Carol Boss talks to Julia Bacha and Geeta Gandbhir whose documentaries of women who risked their lives for peace will be screened on the new series of groundbreaking films, War & Peace II, returning to PBS.Julie Bacha's film, Naila and the Uprising, takes us to 1980's Gaza where a non-violent women's movement formed the heart of the Palestinian struggle for freedom.  Geeta Gandbhir's documentary, A Journey of a Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers, follows one of the world's few all-female peacekeeping units as 160 Bangladeshi women embark on a a United Nations peacekeeping mission to Haiti following the devastating 2011 earthquake. Both directors are recipients of Peabody Awards.  In addition, Greeta has won two Emmy's and one Academy Award.  PBS will be airing these 2 films as well as two others on March 25 and 26 in honor of Women's History Month.  Check NM PBS schedule for dates and times for eac film.
