The statue wasn't damaged, but Liberty Island was pummeled last fall by Superstorm Sandy. Now, just in time for July 4th celebrations, the island and the statue are open again to visitors. The tide of public opinion appears to be rapidly turning in favor of legalization. In November 2012, Gallup found that 48 percent of Americans favored marijuana legalization. Now that figure is at 58 percent.
