KUNM Call In Show Thu. 9/18 8a: New Mexico is in what has been termed a "double-dip recession." We are at or near the top of lists of states where food insecurity impacts the greatest percentage of residents, and our job growth is among the worst in the U.S.
More than 400,000 New Mexicans receive food assistance and Governor Susana Martinez's administration is proposing to restore work requirements for childless adults and to require job searches or community service to be performed by low-income parents and other caregivers of children age 6 and older in order to receive food stamps. Will the requirements assist people in becoming self-sufficient or simply knock poor people out of SNAP?
