Fri. 9/7 11a: Over the years, Native American headdresses have made their appearance outside of the curios shops of the Southwest and into costume shops just before Halloween.
Headdresses have been popularized by movie stars and musical artists and entertainers in Las Vegas and during Mardi Gras. Today you can find YouTube videos on how to make a neon headdress or a mini headdress comprised of bright colored pony beads, colored feather fluffs and safety pins.
So just what is the story behind the headdress and who has the right to make and wear them? Has the headdress frenzy taken over the real meaning of wearing one?
