All Voting Is Local

By Jenn Warren, USAID Africa Bureau - Voters at southern Sudan referendum, Public Domain,

Sat. 9/19, 12pm:  Carol Boss talks about All Voting is Local, a project in collaboration with the ACLU, The American Constitution Society and others. They are located in 8 states with a mission to remove discriminatory barriers to the ballot.  Her guests are Kayla Griffin, the Ohio State Campaign Director for All Voting is Local, a lawyer and community organizer who will talk about wrongful voter purges, rejected ballots in Black communities, and attempts to decrease the number of poll workers in Ohio.

Also,  attorney Rosemary Avila, a campaign director in Arizona who has worked many years with Native American communities. All Voting is Local is working there on making it less difficult to receive and vote by mail and ensuring those who are less likely to vote by mail can vote in-person at polling places that are accessible and are near where they live and work, and without waiting in a long line.

Carol will also talk with Andrea Hanley, Chief Curator of the Wheelwright Museum of Indian Arts and Curator of "Feminisms",  a new exhibition at 516 Arts, featuring artists of various cultures whose work uses the theme of feminism in its most expansive meaning. Joining them will be artist Marie Watt from Portland, Oregon. Her work is included in the exhibit.

Wrapping up the show will be a conversation with Madalene Mielke, President and CEO of the Asian Pacific American Institute For Congressional Studies, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Asian Pacific American participation and representation at all levels of the political process, from community service to elected office.
