An Amnesia Patient's Strange Power Of Recall
A 71-year-old amnesiac in Germany has become well known in medical circles there. Even though the patient has lost nearly all memory of his past and has difficulty planning anything in the present or for the future, new research shows the former concert cellist is still able to learn new music. Audie Cornish speaks with Dr. Carsten Finke, a neurologist at The Charite university hospital in Berlin, about the unique patient.

Britain opted out of the euro, but it's by no means protected from the eurozone troubles. Declining demand on the continent means fewer British exports. The picture is particularly bleak in places like Hull — a port city with one of the highest rates of youth unemployment in Britain.

Swede Fest Attracts Hollywood Blockbuster Remakes
There's a community of people who celebrate the films they love by attempting to recreate them using low-budget costumes, sets and special effects. The process, introduced in the movie Be Kind Rewind, is called sweding. Twice a year, these folks come together in Fresno, Calif., to showcase their work.

NATO Strike Adds To Damaged U.S.-Pakistani Ties
Already tense U.S.-Pakistan relations have been further strained by a weekend incident on the Afghan border that left two dozen Pakistani soldiers dead. Pakistan says NATO helicopters crossed the frontier and fired on its forces. NATO has apologized for the loss of life and is investigating what happened.

Holiday Weekend Was A Good One For Retailers
Consumers spent a record $52.4 at stores and on the Internet over the weekend. According to the National Retail Federation, shoppers hunting for Black Friday bargains spent an average of about $400 each. That's a good jump over last year.

Voting has begun in Egypt, where the nation's first parliamentary elections are being held since the toppling of President Hosni Mubarak's regime nine months ago. So far turnout is high and things are going well — a relief after last week's protests.
