Federal Reserve Cuts Back U.S. Growth Forecast
Federal Reserve officials signaled rising concerns about the economy in a statement released Wednesday. They decided to keep short-term interest rates near zero and to continue a program designed to push down long-term rates. The Fed also issued a revised forecast with lower growth rates and higher unemployment rates over the next few years.

The Burmese pro-democracy leader returned to her alma mater to receive the honorary degree she was unable to collect for more than a decade. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. He is accused of not turning over certain documents related to the flawed gun-trafficking operation known as Fast and Furious. The White House has invoked executive privilege.
