Funding for Solar Projects on Tribal Lands and in northern New Mexico Communities

Funding for Solar Projects on Tribal Lands and in northern New Mexico Communities

For Immediate Release Santa Fe…Thursday, February 12, 2019 Cornerstones Funds Solar Projects on Tribal Lands and in northern New Mexico Villages Cornerstones Community Partnerships and Remy’s Good Day Fund are collaborating on The Solar Initiative, which provides funding for projects on Tribal lands and in economically challenged northern New Mexico villages. Since its inception in late 2017, the partnership has granted $150,000.00 to a wide variety of projects, including the solarization of individual homes to community buildings as well as providing scholarships for the unemployed and underemployed interested in being trained in solar installation and maintenance. New Mexico ranks second in the nation for solar potential but has been slow to act on this fact. The good news is, a recent Bureau of Labor Statistics notice shows that solar panel installation is the fastest growing job category in New Mexico. Cornerstones and Remy’s Good Day Fund intend to help New Mexico students of all ages train for this exciting, new opportunity. Cornerstones Community Partnerships is a 501c3 organization, “Partnering with Communities for a Sustainable Heritage” since 1986. The Initiative supports economic development with a 21st century thrust. Savings realized through the installation of solar power allows communities to reinvest those dollars into preservation of their culture. Solar power also offers health benefits and helps the environment.
