The UNM Opera Theatre is delighted to present four performances of Mark Adamo's opera Little Women. The production is directed by Dr. Olga Perez Flora and conducted by Dr. Kristin Ditlow, with the musicians of the UNM Opera Orchestra, April 3-5 at 7:30pm and April 6 at 2:00pm. The opera is sung in English and was Adamo's first opera, written in 1998 and premiered by the Houston Grand Opera. It is based on the book of the same name by Louisa May Alcott, which has long been a favorite of the North American literary canon. Following sisters Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy as they grow to adulthood through the American Civil War, the opera centers around Jo’s resistance to the changes that come with growing up as her sisters begin to move on and her old way of life is no longer sustainable.
