Employing banded, sewn, and deconstructed canvases, Brooklyn-based artist Rebecca Ward’s work explores the line between painting and sculpture. Emphasizing materiality and process by unraveling and reassembling canvas to expose underlying stretcher bars, the selection of recent works in distance to venus traces the transformative phases of pregnancy and childbirth as a queer person experiencing motherhood.
