Albuquerque Sol Soccer Moves On To Playoffs

World Cup fever hit the U.S. hard this month, and Albuquerque soccer fans are still celebrating. The Albuquerque Sol are headed to the Premier Development League playoffs after finishing their regular season Monday. Their last home game was on Saturday.

Ron Patel created the Albuquerque Sol Football Club after spending nine years in New Mexico He missed the game he grew up with in England - playing with his father and rooting for Liverpool.

Fans have turned out to support Patel’s team. For their first home game last season, he says more than 1,300 people showed up. For their final regular season game this year more than 800 came out to cheer the Sol into the playoffs.

They finished the regular season second in the Mountain Division with eight wins, two losses, and three ties in the PDL. It’s kind of a AA or farm level soccer league. There are four other teams in the division, and 65 others in the league.

The next game is the playoff opener with the Sol facing division rivals Tucson on the road Saturday night. The game will be streamed live on FC Tucson’s website
