A new state law that governs ride-booking companies like Uber goes into effect next month. But before it becomes official, state regulators have to write the regulations.

Public Regulation Commissioners have just over a month to make the rules. Spokesperson Carlos Padilla says they’re in a state of Emergency Rule Making.

They’re looking to bring representatives from Uber and local taxi companies to the table next week to hash it out.

“I can’t guess what the commission is going to decide, but at least they will have all of the players there to see where everybody stands,” said Padilla.

New Mexico’s taxi and limousine industries have criticized treating ride-booking companies differently in the past because often those regulations are not as strict.

The PRC Workshop will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 13th at the P.E.R.A. Building in Santa Fe. For more information and to watch a live stream of the workshop click here
