Un nuevo programa para ayudar a los hogares de bajos ingresos a pagar sus facturas de agua está disponible para ayudar a los Nuevos Mexicanos con facturas vencidas o facturas actuales que tienen dificultades para pagar.

A new program to help low-income households pay their water and wastewater bills is available to help New Mexicans with past due bills, or current bills they are struggling to pay.

The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program is a temporary, federally-funded water assistance program for low-income households.

It is designed to help offset the costs of water and wastewater bills.

The New Mexico Human Services Department will administer the benefits, which are up to $1,500 per household. The department also administers other benefits such as food stamps, Medicaid and heating assistance.

Eligible households may receive help to pay for reconnection of services and for past due bills. Eligibility includes having a social security number according to the human services department.

Customers who are current with their water bill and meet the eligibility requirements may also apply for the benefit. New Mexico will prioritize eligibility for households without water services due to a disconnection, and those in imminent danger of disconnection.

Applications are available online in English, Spanish, and several other languages.

Households may apply online for LIHWAP atwww.yes.state.nm.us or by phone at 1-800-283-4465.
