5/9 Alb.--Two first-time candidates are vying for an open seat in district 20.
The women, who are running in the Democratic primary, have been active on issues, but decided to run for office when the incumbent, Rep Akhil, decided not to run for re-election. Dixon has worked with Tom Udall, Bill Richardson, and Brian Egolff. Estrella has headed up her neighborhod association. They talk about their positions on paid family leave and reproductive issues and more.
The Republican candidate, Michael Hendricks, is a lawyer who ran for Attorney General in 2018. At that time, he was strongly pro-life and was endorsed by the Family Policy Council. On his current campaign website, he states that he is "pro-life" and for reduction in taxes among other issues.
