National Hispanic Heritage Month: solamente un mes, ¿y nada más?

allthings505.com

Mon. August 25th, 7p: It took an act of Congress on September 17, 1968, just to get a “National Hispanic Heritage Week”, and another one in 1988 to get “National Hispanic Heritage Month.” Year cannot be far off...

Host Adam Aguirre talks with Jesus “Chuy” Martínez of the City of Albuquerque’s Cultural Services Department about National Hispanic Heritage Month, that period from September 15 to October 15 when people of the United States recognize, appreciate, and honor the contributions of Hispanic- and Latino-Americans to this country’s corazón, alma y huevos, and celebrate their rich heritage and culture.

Chuy Martínez, a living legend of immense talent and passion, is a character, a singer, song-writer, folklorist, performer, who has recorded six albums and is featured in numerous anthologies nationally. For the past twenty-five years he has hosted New Mexico's popular television show, "Lo Maduro de La Cultura," which features poets, writers, and performing artists whose works reflect the diverse cultures of the Southwest. As Curator of Cultural Services for the City of Albuquerque, Martínez has all the details on the City’s celebration, which kicks off September 5 in Old Town.
