The health care employees union used a Santa Fe hospital’s low patient rating as grounds to call for help from city officials on Friday morning.
Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center did worse than most hospitals in the state in recent patient surveys, scoring only two of five stars.
Lorie MacIver, president of local chapter of the hospital and health care employees union, said that’s because Santa Fe’s only hospital has not been meeting the staffing goals set out in a contract signed late last year. "We are calling on the city officials to help us stand up and say, 'enough is enough.' We need to protect our health care community and allow us to take proper care of our patients," she said.
A spokesperson for the hospital said in an email that Christus St. Vincent has hired 35 new nurses, is holding community feedback meetings and hired a firm to improve service.
