Let’s Talk New Mexico, 9/4/25, 8am: As summer turns to fall and the temperatures drop, we see the leaves turn red and gold, and we smell chile roasting in the air. It’s harvest time. But what does the turn of seasons really mean to farmers and markets and festivals when much of our produce is grown using technology that lengthens the growing season, like green houses and hoop houses? And, for more delicate produce that requires hand picking, will there be enough workers to get our cherished tomatoes and chiles to the market?
On the next Let’s Talk New Mexico we’ll check in on the harvest with farmers, markets, and festivals to find out how the harvest has changed, how big our bounty will be, and whether our farmers have all the help they need.
