Cannabis Regulation Act

The New Mexico Department of Transportation will host a summit Thursday April 20, 2023 to discuss traffic safety and cannabis use.

New Mexico legalized recreational cannabis in 2021 with intentions to support communities disproportionately harmed by its criminalization. Sales opened last year and a bill now moving through the Legislature aims to finally funnel some of the tax revenue into local health and equity work.

Amid a packed legislative session with a record surplus of state revenue and plans to tackle climate change and improve education and public safety, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has officially called on the state legislature to make some changes to current cannabis laws.
