A New Mexico lawmaker wants the state to spend more money to help clean up sites that could contaminate land, water and air.

There are at least 302 “orphan sites” in New Mexico, where “known or suspected contamination is causing a threat to human health or the environment,” according to the New Mexico Environment Department.

Senate Bill 219 which would establish a medical psilocybin program, making New Mexico only the third state to do so, passed its first committee Tuesday.
