The first results from tests of the water in northwestern New Mexico contaminated by the Gold King Mine spill are expected on Wednesday.
Some residents with wells along the Animas River are making do.
Bill Woodard lives right on the river in Aztec. His shallow well is just 200 feet from water that has been contaminated by mine waste. He shut-off the well days ago and says it’s inconvenient but manageable for him and his wife.
“Actually we’re showering here at McGee Park," he said, "so there’s still resources available and we can carry water and flush the toilets and do that kind of stuff.”
Woodard is especially concerned about arsenic and the long-term effects from the spill. He’s having his well tested, but at this point it’s just a waiting game for the results.
