Michael Mandrell’s finger-style guitar work and moving ballads have earned him a reputation across the American west as a talented composer and performer. His music ranges from meditative to energetic and includes both Celtic and New Age. He joins with the Fairy Jazz Project, a group of artists in Taos with mutual interests in Celtic music. FJP includes Julie Hawley on harp and bass, Jimmie Killingsworth on mandolin, Irish Bouzouki, and banjo, and Stephen Welter on string bass and guitar. Vocal and instrumental pieces include forays into jazz, rock, and blues. Their combination promises some open-hearted joy to bring in the New Year.

All About Jazz sings her praises as “One of the greatest…of our time.” More than any other, Anat Cohen is credited with “bringing the clarinet to the world.” With a satchel full of Grammy nominations in the World Music and Latin Jazz categories, Anat (clarinet & sax) and her ensemble of multi-instrumentalist virtuosos from around the world explore modern jazz, African grooves, New Orleans styles, and the lively sounds of Brazil and Latin America.

Bloom, Anat’s 21st album as a leader or co-leader and the second with her small group Quartetinho, was issued to rave reviews and a hit trans-Atlantic tour in 2024, with All About Jazz applauding the band’s “daring virtuosity and soulful joie de vivre.” Hot on the heels of that release comes a new live album: Interaction, issued by Anat’s label, Anzic Records, in 2025. Interaction presents the clarinetist as part of The 3 Cohens, the long-running family band that also stars her brothers, trumpeter Avishai and saxophonist Yuval (both ECM artists). They were recorded in concert with Germany’s WDR Big Band, an ensemble renowned not only for its sound but also its collaborative flair. The arranger-conductor for Interaction is Anat’s Anzic comrade Oded Lev-Ari, who also plays that role with her Tentet, the 10-piece group that she has showcased at such venues as Carnegie Hall and SFJAZZ’s Miner Auditorium. Anat’s multiple Grammy nominations include one for 2019’s Triple Helix, the second album by the Tentet.

Anat has been credited as a primary force for re-establishing the clarinet as a solo instrument in the 21st century. She has been named Clarinetist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association every year since 2007, and she has also been the top clarinetist in both the readers and critics polls in DownBeat every year since 2011.

Anat was born in Tel Aviv and attended the Tel Aviv School for the Arts, the Jaffa Music Conservatory, and later the Berklee College of Music, where she honed her jazz chops and expanded her musical horizons. She spent a decade touring with Sherrie Maricle’s all-woman big band, The Diva Jazz Orchestra; she also worked in such Brazilian groups as the Choro Ensemble and Duduka Da Fonseca’s Samba Jazz Quintet, along with performing the music of Louis Armstrong with David Ostwald’s “Gully Low Jazz Band.” Anat soon began to bend ears and turn heads; whether playing clarinet, soprano saxophone or tenor saxophone. In 2009, Anat became the first Israeli to headline at the Village Vanguard, the setting for perhaps the most celebrated live recordings in jazz history. Widely considered one of the world’s greatest clarinetists, she has been making history ever since.

Sounds in Place consists of trumpeter Delbert Anderson and keyboard player Robert Muller (keys). Anderson, a Diné jazz trumpet artist, composer, and educator, stands at the forefront of a vibrant Native American jazz scene. His work, deeply rooted in his Diné heritage, seamlessly integrates Navajo “spinning songs” of love, healing, and courtship with jazz, funk and hip-hop. His compositions are inspired by Navajo Nation landscapes, historical events, and the desire to preserve and educate about Diné history. Anderson’s notable projects include “The Long Walk: 1,674 Days,” a poignant composition reflecting on a critical period in Navajo history, and “Manitou,” which fuses ancient Native American melodies with jazz and funk. The Delbert Anderson Trio (DAT) showcases DAT jazz standards and original tunes, capturing the essence of his musical beginnings. His commitment to community and education is evident through his “Build A Band” educational program, which teaches jazz improvisation to young students through a Diné and family curriculum, wellness programs, and community outreach initiatives aimed at evoking change for the well-being of all humans. Anderson’s achievements have garnered awards from Chamber Music America, the Cultural Capital Fellowship from the First Peoples Fund, and the Jazz Road Program at South Arts. His contributions to music and culture have been featured in prominent outlets like The New York Times, JazzTimes, Grammy.com, and NPR.

Traditional New Orleans Jazz is on the menu to spice up your event as well as the Second Line funky sounds that will make you move your bones.

The third concert of the Presidential Chamber Music and World Series, offered as a Free - Pay As You Wish concert to the central NM community.

Flambeaux serves up a gumbo of traditional jazz spiced with spirited ensemble improvisations springing from vintage American tunes of the 1910s, 20s, and 30s. This surprisingly fresh and swinging acoustic quartet (soprano sax, trombone, banjo and tuba, plus vocals) is made up of four of Albuquerque’s most talented and beloved instrumentalists. John Truitt (sax) is a distinguished composer, teacher, clinician, flamenco guitarist and woodwind specialist who, in addition to many other awards, recently received the John Donald Robb Musical Trust 2023 Robb Award for Excellence. The electrifying Micah Hood (trombone) is an award-winning composer/arranger and UNM teacher (where he received his Masters of Music degree), whose playing sparks many New Mexico bands including the popular Baracutanga. Wayne Shrubsall is a nationally-known scholar and performer of the banjo who is fluent in all styles of bluegrass, clawhammer, traditional jazz and dance music. Mark Weaver’s agile tuba has underpinned many local and touring bands of all types (including teaming with Wayne in jazz groups for 25 years).
