On the 100th anniversary of Route 66 in 2026, experience “The Old Road”—a mural that at once remembers the first major highway traversing the United States and gives emphasis to its impact on Pueblo communities and New Mexico. Through the eyes of artists Warren Montoya (Pueblos of Santa Ana/Santa Clara), Margarita Paz-Pedro (Pueblo of Laguna/Mexican American), Akilah Martinez (Diné), and Keith Scott (Pueblo of Laguna), this multi-dimensional installation travels through time showing Pueblo people and places along the “Mother Road,” otherwise known as Route 66. Explore the eccentric narrative created by these artists as they look at multiple roads simultaneously, from ancestral times to recent history, to glimpses of the present and future. Already a historic exchange route within Indigenous communities, Route 66 still echoes in the personality and culture of New Mexico byways. Journey through this mural located in the Art Through Struggle Gallery at the end of the IPCC’s permanent exhibition.

The NMSU Art Museum is pleased to present On the Edge, an exhibition that traces the trajectory of Shirley Crow’s career, exploring an artistic practice grounded in a lasting sense of wonder about the mysteries of the universe. Spanning nearly fifty years, and including pastel, ink, graphite, and oil, Crow’s work invites viewers to experience her intuitive visual language informed by the magic of creativity and an ongoing questioning of our existence. Opening reception for Shirley Crow: On the Edge is on October 16 from 5:30-7:30 pm, and will be on display through July 17, 2027.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center (IPCC), this exhibition highlights the Center’s history through Pueblo imagery and perspectives of the past, present, and future. A combination of fifty objects from the IPCC’s Collections and Archives, with an emphasis on Pueblo pottery, illustrates the significance of the Center as a gathering place where Pueblo arts and culture are celebrated by visitors from around the world and, at once, nurtured by Pueblo communities across the generations. Gallery videos, updated throughout the year, will feature interviews with Pueblo artists, scholars, and culture bearers that present insider views of the IPCC. Join us to celebrate the exhibition on March 21 from 5-8pm during our free, public reception. Organized by the School for Advanced Research (SAR) and the Vilcek Foundation, Grounded in Clay: The Spirit of Pueblo Pottery, a unique traveling exhibition featuring over 100 historic and contemporary works in clay, offers a visionary understanding of Pueblo pots as vessels that carry community-based knowledge and personal experience. The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center (IPCC), established by the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico in 1976, welcomes the pottery vessels back to the Southwest as the “returning home” host venue of the exhibition’s four-year national tour. Curated by the Pueblo Pottery Collective, Grounded in Clay opens at the IPCC as the leading program of the Center’s 50th anniversary celebration year. The exhibition and its associated events are generously supported by the First Nations Development Institute and Noon Whistle Fund.

THE PEKING ACROBATS® For the last thirty two years, have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobatics. They perform daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs and display their technical prowess at such arts as trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting, and gymnastics. They push the limits of human ability, defying gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control.

THE PEKING ACROBATS are often accompanied by live musicians who skillfully play traditional Chinese instruments; the time-honored Chinese music coalesces with high-tech special effects and awe-inspiring acrobatic feats, creating an exuberant entertainment event with the festive pageantry of a Chinese Carnival.

Since their founding in 1986, the Peking Acrobats have been featured on numerous television shows and celebrity-studded TV specials. These include Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous, Ellen’s Really Big Show (hosted by Ellen DeGeneres), The Wayne Brady Show, That’s Incredible, ABC’s Wide World of Sports, and NBC’s Ring In The New Year Holiday Special. They have also appeared on HDNet TV’s In Focusseries, and have appeared regularly in 3D on NBC/Comcast’s new 3D Channel. They set the world record for the Human Chair Stack on FOX Network’s Guinness Book Primetime television show in 1999: they balanced six people precariously atop six chairs twenty one feet up in the air without safety lines, astounding audiences with their bravery and dexterity. The Peking Acrobats have also made their way onto the silver screen – company members were featured in Steven Soderbergh’s hit film Ocean’s Eleven playing alongside Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Peking Acrobats’ alumnus Shaobo Qin also appeared in that film’s two sequels, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.

THE PEKING ACROBATS achieved another milestone in the fall of 2003, when they made their orchestral debut at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA. They performed as part of the Hollywood Bowl’s Fireworks Season Finale, where the company blended their unique brand of acrobatics with the majestic sound of the 100-piece Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by John Mauceri. Since their Hollywood Bowl debut, THE PEKING ACROBATS have performed with many of the most prestigious Symphony Orchestras in North America today. These include the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; the Ravinia Festival Orchestra, featuring members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; the San Diego Symphony Orchestra; the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra; the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra; and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. THE PEKING ACROBATS return often to the Hollywood Bowl, where they perform with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra as Special Guest Artists.
