2024 primary election

The 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s primary race in Bernalillo County is now the battleground for the top two funded candidates in the entire state – incumbent Sam Bregman and his challenger, former U.S. Attorney Damon Martinez – both Democrats.

In the Democratic primary race for House District 69, incumbent Harry Garcia faces Navajo attorney Michelle Pauline Abeyta and miner Stanley Michael. With no Republican running, whoever wins this race on June 4th will most likely go to the state Legislature in January.

Las Vegas-area state Rep. Ambrose Castellano (D-Serrafina) has defeated his challenger in this year’s District 70 Democratic primary election twice before, but by less than 100 votes both times. This round, the more progressive Anita Gonzales has the support of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham behind her.

The 2024 primary elections are underway with early and absentee voting, but primary election day is Tuesday, June 4 and we’d like to hear from you. Two Democratic candidates are vying for the District 30 State Senate seat in western New Mexico. With no Republican candidate running that means whoever wins during the primary election, will be the winner. Advocate Angel Charley is facing off against former State Senator Clemente Sanchez.

Two Republican candidates are vying to run against Democratic Representative Melanie Stansbury in the fall for New Mexico’s District 1 Congressional seat, which covers the central part of the state, including most of Albuquerque. But first, they’ll square off in the June primary.

After 27 years in the state House, New Mexico Rep. Gail Chasey (D-Albuquerque) is retiring, and four Democratic candidates are vying for her Nob Hill-area District 18 seat in the primary election. With the four progressives sharing similar political ideals, their varied backgrounds have emerged as a focal point of the campaign.

Early voting in primary elections is already underway. One race set to be closely-contested is State Senate District 15, where Democrat Heather Berghmans is running against incumbent Daniel Ivey-Soto. Whoever wins the seat will be up against Republican Craig Degenhardt in the general election.
