Duck Pond

This past weekend brought record temperatures for the cities of Albuquerque, Roswell, Socorro, and most of southwest New Mexico. The unseasonably warm weather broke the previous daily record by five degrees.

At the grand reopening for the University of New Mexico Duck Pond Wednesday a few dozen people gathered around a podium while several folks from the university spoke. Enthusiastic staff and faculty were on hand, but students were less excited.

The long-awaited reopening of the University of New Mexico’s Duck Pond is coming soon. Last Friday the pond had its “soft opening,” but there are still a few kinks to work out before the community can fully enjoy the space. Check out what's new and why it was necessary.

Protesters say that while they celebrate having won a commitment from the university to investigate its financial connections to Israel, the police action was unjustified and they plan to keep up the pressure on university leaders.

Twelve hours after the deadline to either pack up and leave or face more police raids, the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at the University of New Mexico stayed in place. By 7 a.m. Wednesday, police had moved the group from the encampment.
