This year, New Mexico began allowing voters to register or update their registration immediately before casting their ballot on Election Day. That same-day registration was available for a special election in June, but it won’t be in next month’s election.

Tuesday night Albuquerque Democrat Melanie Stansbury celebrated her victory with a crowd chanting her name after winning the congressional seat left open when Deb Haaland was asked to serve as President’s Biden’s Interior Secretary.

Stansbury flouted her Albuquerque roots and a working-class upbringing through the campaign and during a victory speech at Hotel Albuquerque.

The special election for the 1st Congressional District is fast approaching. KUNM continues interviewing the candidates for the seat, and today we speak with Melanie Stansbury. The Democratic candidate shares her views on systemic racism, water conservation, and homelessnes.

Santa Fe residents are voting on whether to renew funding for computer and technology access for schools. The special mail-in election ends next Tuesday, March 5.

APS Mail-In Ballots On Tax Increase Due Tuesday

Albuquerque school district residents are voting on property tax increases that would raise about a billion dollars for projects over the next six years. The special mail-in ballots must be received in the Bernalillo County Clerks’ office by Tuesday, February 5th.
