The NMSU Art Museum proudly presents Marietta Patricia Leis: Breathing Lessons, a major career retrospective by renowned New Mexico-based artist Marietta Leis. The exhibition reflects Leis’s exploration of color, time, movement, and place across a diverse range of media, including: video, painting, photography, sculpture, poetry, and sound. Opening reception for Marietta Patricia Leis: Breathing Lessons is on October 16 from 5:30-7:30 pm, and will be on display through March 6, 2027.

Annual Artist in Residence Exhibition featuring Marie Alarcón
Albuquerque, NM / Harwood Art Center is pleased to present Papi León and Friends by 2026 Artist in Residence, Marie Alarcón. For Papi León and Friends, Artist in Residence Marie Alarcón worked with local artists, through a series of community workshops on the construction of “diasporic deities.”These deities act as placeholders for the diasporic and their lost links to ancestors. The work in this show reflects the process of creating space for these deities in their various forms. Alarcón’s deity, Papi León, is part pirate, part cannibal, and part zombie, an artifact of the three nationalities in Alarcon’s Filipino, Puerto Rican, and Haitian ancestry. Viewers can also watch Alarcón’s Apocalypso, a film made between New Mexico and Puerto Rico.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Particle and the Wave: Oracles and Symbols for Living and Dying, a solo show by Alex Ponca Stock.

Particle and the Wave features eight abstract artworks that explore the conjunction of modern technological and scientific knowledge with the ancient knowledge handed down from our ancestors. Using the traditional beaded broadcloth found in Osage regalia, Alex Ponca Stock considers a broad array of modern and historical references, including color field painting, early Christian heresies, ancient mound-builders, and quantum physics. The result of her experimentation with larger-scale work, this exhibition is a mature showcase of Ponca Stock’s ability to visually dissect the currents of 21st century life.

Ponca Stock’s practice combines intensive research with the slow, meditative labor of beading to create objects with a strong sense of internal order. The composition of her soft textile works are often reminiscent of the aesthetic of technology—motherboards, logic gates, 3D renderings—without ever betraying the beauty and integrity of the medium. In her choice of color, Ponca Stock is highly attuned not only to the symbolic and emotional power of color, but its physiological effect.

Alex Ponca Stock (b. 1986) is a painter and beadworker from the Gray Horse District of the Osage Nation and the third generation in her family to graduate from the Kansas City Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited by the Denver Art Museum, the First Americans Museum, and the Osage Nation Museum, among others. The artist currently lives and works in Santa Fe, NM.

Unearthing Futures / Desenterrando Futuros explores contemporary earthen artworks, establishing a profound dialogue between regional roots and global perspectives. As visitors engage with the exhibition, they embark on a journey through time, examining the intricate relationship between humanity and the elemental material of unfired earth.

VSS' Open House is a free, family-friendly community event that brings together local artists, vendors, businesses, community partners, and supporters for a day of live music, food and beverages, a community ofrenda, costume contest, silence auction, VSS site tours, and more.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, making this annual gathering especially meaningful for VSS. It is a time to raise awareness about domestic violence, honor survivors, remember those whose lives have been impacted or lost to violence, and strengthen the community connections that help survivors know they are not alone.

Our Annual Open House & Fall FUNdraiser is one of the ways we bring that awareness home to our community. By opening our doors, we have the opportunity to introduce more people to VSS, share information about our services, connect with community partners, celebrate the strength of survivors, and raise critical funds to support the individuals and families we serve throughout Central New Mexico.

Do you want to learn how to tap into the beauty of your everyday world? We will learn to create city/landscapes that reflect the world as we see it. There is no right way to paint, but with lessons and information, we can make painting easier and hone in on your own personal style. We will delve into skills and techniques regarding color, light, composition, perspective, and narrative. I feel that in New Mexico especially it is important for people to see us not for our flagship imagery and icons, but how everyday people here live.

The SaFeRR Hotline is used for suspected ICE sightings in Santa Fe County and City. Dispatchers are available to respond to calls. They are bilingual. Confirmers will respond to sightings and offer on the ground documentation and support to detainees, their families and bystanders. Please help keep the City safe.

Coordinated by apparatus in partnership with RELAY Santa Fe, "Here Is How" is a street-side knowledge exchange festival and block party centering street-level skill-sharing, mutual aid, and creative solidarity. Attendees gather single-page, practical "How-To" guides from local organizations, creators, and neighbors, binding them into a custom, hand-bound community resource handbook at an on-site station. Features live music, workshops, food vendors, community forums, and an evening dance party.

Richard Nihil, singer-songwriter behind I Am Hologram, performs at Bonito Valley Brewing Company in Lincoln on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 3:00 PM. Expect a restless acoustic set of psychedelic folk and dirtbag poetry. Over the last five years, I Am Hologram has played more than 800 gigs while traveling through 47 states and more than 150,000 miles on the road.
